VALUE ADD

23-24 Gillender Street is a 170,00 sq ft part Victorian and part 1930’s modernist warehouse in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The building is arranged over four storeys with floor-to-ceiling heights up to five metres. The ceiling heights makes the building highly flexible for a range of uses, including stacked logistics and laboratories.

Working alongside world-class Dutch architects, MVRDV, the project provides an opportunity to transform one of London’s great warehouses in an area of London and sector experiencing major change. Extensive refurbishment will commence in 2022 and revitalise this riverside site to develop a scheme rooted in sustainability and community, making a lasting contribution to the future of East London and addressing some of the challenges our cities face.

“Having partnered with Fabrix for some time in Berlin, we’re excited to work with them now in London. They have shown us how sensitive they are as developers to the character of a place – but also that they are open to new, unexpected ideas that add more layers to that character in tandem with the existing community. We can’t wait to bring such ideas to east London.”

Jacob van Rijs, co-founder of MVRDV
