The Bottle Factory

The Bottle Factory Studio and Workspace was once again home in September to Permanent Temporary – the headline event of the London Design Festival’s Southwark South Design District.

Now in its second year, the weekend-long showcase celebrated the rich and resilient design, art and cultural talent of the Old Kent Road, Peckham and Camberwell.

An incredible mix of work from over 100 local artists and designers was on show, with painting, sculpture, video art, VR interactive pieces, furniture and craft, attracting almost 2,000 people over the two days. The line-up also featured film-screenings, workshops, spoken-word open mic sessions, a fashion show and live music, with headline performances from Peckham-native Sam Akpro and neo-soul singer Akweya.

Big thanks to local collective SUMweekly and 948 Collective for their energy and passion as curators and to Livesey Exchange and PemPeople for their tireless work in advocating for the Old Kent Road community and putting Southwark South on London’s design map.

Southwark South Design District is a hyperlocal design destination encompassing one of London’s most vibrant, creative and multicultural communities, established by PemPeople and Jan Hendzel Studio in response to the London Design Festival’s lack of presence in South East London
